Acura OBD2 codes
Codes where we have reviewed, vehicle-specific evidence for this make.
Acura's notes come from Honda and Acura dealer bulletins and messages: an airbag firing circuit code and an SRS network code, a thermostat that sticks open on the NSX, a throttle code on the TL and TSX, a transmission code after repairs on the older TL, and camshaft and fuel trim notes on the MDX. Some are parts-collection requests rather than repairs, so check the note before acting on it.
B0020 with the SRS light on the 2015 TLX
Acura sent dealers a message about the SRS light on the 2015 TLX with B0020 stored, asking them to collect parts from affected cars before repairing them. The airbag system is safety critical, so have the SRS light inspected by a dealer rather than working on it yourself. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0128 from a loose thermostat inner seal
Acura bulletin 17-048 says the thermostat inner seal on the 2017 NSX can come loose and hold the thermostat open, setting P0128; the fix is a new thermostat. The bulletin is published on NHTSA, but we have not confirmed it is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0133 with the check engine light on, from an Acura bulletin
Acura bulletin 99025 covers the check engine light with P0133 stored on 1998 to 1999 RL and TL models. We only read the NHTSA summary, which does not say what the fix is. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0158 under investigation on the 2014 MDX
Honda bulletin IN-142702 reports an investigation into P0158 and a related front or rear secondary oxygen sensor circuit high voltage code with the check engine light on, on the 2014 MDX. We have only read the NHTSA summary and have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0236 with the light on, 2019 to 2021 TLX and RDX
Acura bulletin B21-021 covers the check engine light on with P0236 stored on 2019 to 2021 TLX and RDX models. The summary does not give the repair, so start with the standard checks for this code. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0369 and reduced power from camshaft end play
Honda bulletin A18010I links P0369 with reduced engine power to excessive camshaft end play on the 2016 to 2017 Pilot and Ridgeline, and Acura has the same guidance for the 2016 to 2017 MDX. On some later Honda models the code is a PCM software fix instead. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P04F1 on a 2018 MDX where a dealer said a bulletin did not apply
A 2018 Acura MDX owner told NHTSA about a check engine light with P04F1, and said the dealer replied that TSB 21-081 does not apply to the vehicle. No repair is described. The source is an owner report, which is not verified.
P0657 with a shift into neutral while driving
Acura bulletin PU B15-034 ties P0657 on the 2015 TLX and 2016 MDX to the vehicle shifting into neutral while driving. The transmission indicator lights, and the driver cannot select another gear until the vehicle is turned off and restarted. An owner says the dealer updated transmission and related software. The summary we read is from NHTSA only, not the full bulletin. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0710 from the transmission fluid temperature sensor
Acura bulletin 060103 gives troubleshooting tips for P0710 set on the transmission fluid temperature sensor on some 2000 to 2003 Acura models. Only the NHTSA summary was read, not the bulletin itself. Check the fluid level and condition and the sensor wiring first. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0714 with the TLX stuck in 4th gear
Acura bulletin SB15-041 covers a 2015 TLX transmission stuck in 4th gear with multiple indicators on and temporary P0714 stored. A related bulletin, B15-041, says software sensitivity for the ATF temperature sensor circuit is involved. We have only read the NHTSA summary and have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P073F that will not clear on the hybrid models
Honda bulletin B20-039 covers P073F on the 2017 to 2020 MDX Sport Hybrid, with a matching bulletin B20-040 for the RLX Hybrid. The code is one of several odd-gear codes, and a calibration problem in the PCM stops the permanent code from being cleared. We only read the NHTSA summary. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0780 after a solenoid or transmission is replaced
Acura Tech Line item 105 covers P0780 setting after a solenoid or the transmission has been removed and replaced on the 2000 to 2003 TL and 2001 to 2003 CL. If the code appeared right after that work, mention it to the shop. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0848 on the 2003 to 2004 MDX automatic
An Acura bulletin lists P0848 as automatic transmission codes on the 2003 to 2004 MDX. The NHTSA summary gives no meaning or repair, and we read only that summary. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0973 with the check engine light on
Acura bulletin 05042 covers the check engine light coming on with P0973 on the 2005 RSX. The NHTSA summary gives no cause or fix, so check for stored companion codes and the transmission fluid level first. Only the NHTSA summary was read, not the bulletin itself. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0A3F from a failed motor inverter solder joint
Honda bulletin A20-030 says a defective solder joint can make the motor power inverter fail on some Honda and Acura hybrids, setting several codes including P0A3F. Honda extended warranty coverage to 15 years or 150,000 miles. Ask a dealer whether your vehicle is covered. High voltage parts are dangerous, so do not open the inverter yourself. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0A78 from a bad solder joint in the motor inverter
Acura bulletin B20-021 says a defective solder joint in the motor power inverter on the 2013 ILX Hybrid can set codes including P0A78, and coverage is extended to 15 years or 150,000 miles. It matches Honda bulletin A20-030. Ask a dealer to check the VIN for the extension. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0AE1 and P1437 from the motor power inverter on the ILX Hybrid
Acura bulletin B20-021 is a motor power inverter warranty extension for the 2013 ILX Hybrid, with the same defect and codes as bulletin A20-030. A dealer confirmed a code list matching it after a no-start, and an owner reports losing restart and power steering. The summary we read is from NHTSA only, not the full bulletin. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P1399 with a rough-running engine at 40 to 70 mph
Honda bulletin 060103 covers some Honda and Acura models from 2000 to 2003, including the Odyssey, Pilot, TL, CL and MDX. The engine runs rough at 40 to 70 mph with misfire codes and P1399 stored, and the repair is described as service tips. A mechanic also cites valve adjustment or a blocked EGR passage on a 2003 Pilot. The summary we read is from NHTSA only, not the full bulletin. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P1440 on the ILX Hybrid motor power inverter
Acura bulletin B20-021 is a motor power inverter warranty extension for the 2013 ILX Hybrid and lists P1440 as an inverter module output circuit malfunction. Owners report a jerk while braking, the IMA light, reduced power and a pull-over warning. We read only the NHTSA summary. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P1457 from an EVAP leak at the canister system
Several Honda group bulletins name P1457 as an EVAP canister system leak on some Honda and Acura models. They point to a leak at the canister, a slow fuel vent module on the 2001 to 2002 Civic and an EVAP bypass solenoid valve on the 2002 S2000. We read only the NHTSA summaries. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P1750 read as clutch pressure with jerky shifts
Owner complaints on 2001 Acura TL say a dealer found P1750 as clutch pressure with the check engine light on, and report jerky shifts. One owner linked it to an earlier automatic transmission recall. The source is owner reports, so it is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P1750 listed as a clutch pressure failure
A NHTSA complaint for a 2001 MDX has a scan tool readout listing P1750 as a clutch pressure failure, beside a fourth pressure switch failure code. The source is owner reports, not a bulletin.
P2138 with poor engine performance on the TL and TSX
Acura bulletin IN-27-14 covers P2138 with poor engine performance on the 2004 to 2008 TL and TSX. The summary we read does not state the repair, so have an Acura dealer check the bulletin before parts are replaced. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P2176 with the idle position not learned, 2014 RLX
Acura bulletin 14-052 covers the check engine light with P2176, a throttle idle position not learned code, on the 2014 RLX. We only read the NHTSA summary, so the repair is not known. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P219A with misfire or lean codes in an Acura parts request
An Acura dealer message from August 2021 asked dealers to collect parts from 2016 to 2020 MDX, RDX and TLX with P219A, misfire codes or lean codes. It is a parts request, not a repair bulletin, and it gives no cause or fix, so diagnose the code in the usual way. We have not confirmed the message is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P2636 with a fuel pump failure
A 2017 NSX owner complaint to NHTSA reports a dealer diagnosing a fuel pump malfunction with P2636 and a related code, and asks to be added to a recall. We read only the owner's statement, not the recall. This needs testing to confirm, and it is a single owner report.
U0122 with the VSA light on
Acura bulletin 903 links U0122, an F-CAN communication code, to the vehicle stability assist light on some Acura models, along with two Honda diagnostic trouble codes. We only have the NHTSA summary. Stability assist is a safety system, so have it inspected rather than attempting repairs yourself. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
U0122 with a rear-steering malfunction
One owner told NHTSA about a rear-steering malfunction with fishtailing and many warning lights on some Acura models, with U0122 among many codes scanned. This is an owner report, not a bulletin. Steering is a safety system, so have the vehicle inspected promptly. The source is owner complaints, so it is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
U3000 in the airbag (SRS) unit
Acura bulletin B21100A explains the causes of U3000 stored as an internal failure in the airbag (SRS) unit on some 2020 to 2021 Acura models, and matches a Honda article on the same code. Our summary of the bulletin is cut short and does not list the causes. Because this is the airbag system, have it inspected by a dealer or qualified technician. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
U3006 with Auto Idle Stop not restarting
An owner of a 2020 Acura MDX told NHTSA that a Vehicle Stability Assist code, U3006, showed on the screen and Auto Idle Stop did not restart the engine. The dealer could not replicate it and cleared the codes. The vehicle note mentions low voltage on the ECM, so check the battery first, and have the stability system inspected if the message returns. The source is a single owner report to NHTSA, not a confirmed diagnosis, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
