Got more than one code?

Enter them all. We show the most serious first and how they connect.

Is any of this happening? It can raise the severity.

How we read codes together

Several codes at once usually aren’t several separate problems. A vacuum leak can set lean codes on both banks, and a lean engine can then misfire. Fix the cause and the other codes often clear with it.

So we put the most serious code first, then show any combined analysis we have: which code is likely primary, the causes the codes share, and the order to test in. Symptoms you tick, like a flashing check engine light, can only make the rating more cautious, never less.

We only connect codes when a source supports the link. If we haven’t reviewed a combination yet, we say “No combined analysis for this set yet” and show each code on its own instead of guessing. A code we don’t have a reviewed page for is marked Severity not verified, which we never treat as low risk.

How we decide severity

Your codes stay in your browser

Codes are read from the end of this page’s address (after the #), which browsers don’t send to servers. We don’t store what you enter.
