A/C (air conditioning) codes

The A/C system uses a compressor to circulate refrigerant, which absorbs heat from the cabin and releases it outside. A refrigerant pressure sensor tells the vehicle's computer how much pressure is in the system, so it can switch the compressor on or off and protect it. The A/C is not emissions-related, but the engine computer monitors the pressure sensor circuit and can set codes.

How these codes differ

  • P0530 is the general sensor circuit code, P0531 is the range/performance version, P0532 means the signal is too low and P0533 means it is too high. These point to the sensor, its wiring or the actual refrigerant pressure.
  • P0534 reports refrigerant charge loss, which points to a leak or low charge rather than just an electrical fault.
  • A low-signal code can come from a real low charge or from a wiring fault, so pressure should be measured before parts are replaced.

Codes that show up together

  • P0532 with P0534: both can come from low refrigerant, so look for a leak first.
  • P0530 with P0532 or P0533: the circuit code and a signal code together point to the same sensor wiring.

A/C (air conditioning) codes

  • P0530

The A/C refrigerant pressure sensor circuit has an electrical fault

    Severity: Severity not verified
  • P0531

The A/C refrigerant pressure sensor signal is outside the expected range or performance

    Severity: Severity not verified
  • P0532

The A/C refrigerant pressure sensor is sending a signal that is too low

    Severity: Severity not verified
  • P0533

The A/C refrigerant pressure sensor is sending a signal that is too high

    Severity: Severity not verified
  • P0534

The A/C system has lost refrigerant

    Severity: Severity not verified
