Terms of use
The rules for using CodeMechanic, and the limits of what a diagnostic website can tell you about your car.
Last updated
By using codemechanic.pro you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
Information only, not professional repair advice
CodeMechanic gives general information about OBD-II trouble codes and check engine lights. It is not professional repair advice, and it can't see, hear or test your car. A code tells you which check failed, not which part is broken, and the same code can have different causes on different vehicles.
- Use our pages to understand a problem and decide what to ask a mechanic. Don't rely on them alone for decisions about safety.
- Severity ratings, cause rankings and evidence labels reflect our sources at the time of review and may change.
- No page has been reviewed by a technician yet; see technician review.
Safety
If in doubt, stop and get it inspected.
- If a page says Stop, the check engine light is flashing, or the car overheats, loses power, smells of fuel or burning, or the brakes or steering feel wrong, stop driving as soon as it is safe and have the car inspected.
- Some checks involve hot parts, fuel, electrical systems or lifting the car, and can injure you. Only do what you are equipped and trained to do safely, and follow your vehicle's service information. We don't give repair steps for airbag, brake, steering or high-voltage systems.
- Any work you do on your vehicle is at your own risk.
Accuracy
We source our information and explain how on the methodology page, but we can't promise every page is complete, current or right for your specific vehicle. Manufacturer bulletins and recalls change; check the official NHTSA record for your vehicle. If you find an error, please report it.
No warranty
The site and its content are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, CodeMechanic and its team are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or reliance on its content, including damage to a vehicle, personal injury, repair or towing costs, or lost time. Some places don't allow certain limits on liability, so some of this may not apply to you.
Third-party links and sources
We link to our sources (such as NHTSA, the EPA and manufacturers) and to related services, such as TowsNearby for towing. Other sites have their own terms and privacy policies. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content, availability or practices. Ads on the site are provided by third parties; an ad is not an endorsement.
Intellectual property and using the site
The text, diagnostic graph, design and logo of CodeMechanic belong to CodeMechanic. You may read, share and link to our pages, and quote short passages with a link back. Don't copy the site's content in bulk, scrape it in ways that burden the service, or present it as your own. Trademarks and vehicle names belong to their owners and are used only to identify vehicles.
Privacy
How we handle data is described in the privacy policy.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION TO BE CONFIRMED BY THE OWNER], without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
