P2007: Intake runner control stuck closed (bank 2)

Intake manifold runner control stuck closed, bank 2

Severity: Severity not verified — if the car runs badly, have it inspected

TroubleCodes.net lists the light and possible rough idle or power loss, but no source rates how safe the car is to drive.

It gets more serious if:

  • Inspect soon: Inspect soon if idle is rough or power is down, which TroubleCodes.net lists.

P2007 in short

P2007 means the intake runner control on bank 2 stays closed when the computer commands it open. On Ford V8 F-150s, owners report the manifold runner part or the whole intake manifold being replaced. Wiring, vacuum lines, an actuator fault or carbon on the flaps can also cause it.

Intake runner controls change airflow into the cylinders. P2007 is the bank 2 stuck-closed code, the counterpart of P2006.

TroubleCodes.net lists wiring, vacuum lines, the actuator or position sensor, carbon and rarely the computer. Two F-150 owners reported P2007 with P2005, one saying the manifold needed replacing and another that a new runner control part failed after two days.

Subaru bulletin 02-182-19 covers a design change to the tumble generator valve assemblies on turbo Forester and WRX where EGR condensation can enter, though the NHTSA summary names this code only in the bulletin text.

Most likely causes

  1. Cause 1: Runner control actuator or manifold failed

    Supported by vehicle data
    Why it ranks here
Ford F-150 owners report P2007 with the runner control part or the intake manifold being replaced, one with the code back in two days; TroubleCodes.net lists the actuator.
    What would change this
Rises if the actuator does not move. Falls if it moves freely.
  2. Cause 2: Wiring fault or leaking vacuum line

    Common general cause
    Why it ranks here
TroubleCodes.net lists wiring and vacuum lines.
    What would change this
Rises if wiring or lines fault. Falls if good.
How to test the vacuum hoses and intake leaks
  3. Cause 3: Carbon on the flaps

    Common general cause
    Why it ranks here
TroubleCodes.net lists carbon but says a range code usually accompanies it.
    What would change this
Rises if flaps stick. Falls if free.
  4. Cause 4: Tumble valve design fault (Subaru turbo)

    Supported by vehicle data
    Why it ranks here
Subaru bulletin 02-182-19 covers a TGV design change for 2014 to 2019 Forester Turbo and WRX. Summary only.
    What would change this
Rises on a covered Subaru. Falls elsewhere.

What to test first

Start at step 1. Each result tells you what it means and where to go next.

  1. Step 1: Read all codes and freeze-frame data; note P2005 or other runner codes.

    Low riskTool: OBD-II scan tool

    • IfBoth banks set codes

It meansThe manifold or a shared control fault is more likely.

      Go to step 2

    • IfP2007 alone

It meansInspect the actuator, hoses and wiring.

      Go to step 2

  2. Step 2: Inspect the actuator linkage, vacuum lines and wiring on bank 2 with the engine off.

    Use caution

Warning:Keep away from belts and fans.

  3. Step 3: Command the actuator with a scan tool and watch the position signal; ask a dealer about bulletins.

Best left to a shopTool: scan tool with bidirectional control

Warning:Needs a professional shop with the right scan tool and wiring diagrams; do not guess at this step.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Rough or fluctuating idle
  • Hesitation or weaker power at some speeds Gets more serious: stop and have it checked.

P2007 questions

Is P2007 the same as P2006?

No. P2006 is bank 1 and P2007 is bank 2; both mean the intake runner control stuck closed.
