P0107: Manifold pressure or barometric pressure sensor signal too low

MAP / barometric pressure circuit low input

Severity: Monitor

The code reports a sensor signal that is too low; Honda lists it with a rough cold idle, but GM lists it with a reduced engine power message.

It gets more serious if:

  • Inspect soon: Get it inspected soon if the engine shows a reduced power message, stalls, or will not start.

P0107 in short

P0107 means the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor signal is lower than the computer expects. Likely causes are a failed MAP sensor, a wiring or connector fault, or a vacuum leak. Some Honda, GM and Ram bulletins cover it. It is often driveable, but get it checked if power drops.

The MAP sensor reports intake pressure so the computer can estimate engine load. P0107 is set when the signal voltage is lower than the computer expects, which can come from a short to ground, an open supply or a failed sensor.

Honda bulletin 04004 covers rough cold idle with the code, Ram S1808000282 lists it with P0108 and P2172 on the 2019 Ram 1500, and GM PIT5677A has dealers inspect the engine harness for shorting on 2019 Silverado and Sierra.

Check whether P0108 or P0106 are stored too.

Most likely causes

  1. Cause 1: Failed MAP sensor

    Common general cause
    Why it ranks here
Reference pages list the sensor first.
    What would change this
Rises if the reading does not change with throttle or vacuum. Falls if it responds normally.
  2. Cause 2: Wiring or connector fault, including harness shorting

    Supported by vehicle data
    Why it ranks here
GM PIT5677A has dealers inspect the engine harness for shorting, and Ram S1808000282 covers a related harness concern.
    What would change this
Rises if wiggling the harness changes the reading. Falls if wiring is clean.
  3. Cause 3: Vacuum leak or restriction at the sensor

    Possible — needs testing
    Why it ranks here
Reference pages list vacuum hose problems for MAP sensor codes.
    What would change this
Rises if a hose is cracked or off. Falls if hoses are intact.

What to test first

Start at step 1. Each result tells you what it means and where to go next.

  1. Step 1: Read all codes. Note P0108, P0106 and P2172.

    Low riskTool: OBD-II scan tool

  2. Step 2: Key on, engine off, read the MAP value and compare with barometric pressure; then start the engine and watch it change.

Low riskTool: scan tool with live data

Symptoms

  • Check engine light
  • Rough idle, especially on a cold start
  • Reduced engine power message Gets more serious: stop and have it checked.

How to fix

  1. Step 1: With the engine off, check the MAP sensor connector and its vacuum hose for damage.
