P0867: Transmission fluid pressure
Transmission fluid pressure fault
Severity: Inspect soon
Wrong line pressure can cause slipping or harsh shifts, and Hyundai, Kia and GM bulletins list this code with service transmission messages, so have it checked soon.
It gets more serious if:
- Stop: Treat as Stop if the transmission slips badly, will not move or is in limp mode.
P0867 in short
P0867 is a transmission fluid pressure fault. PartsAvatar says it sets when actual and desired line pressure differ by 10 psi or more. Hyundai and Kia bulletins pair it with IVT/CVT codes and call for a TCU update or transmission replacement. Get it checked soon, and stop if it slips.
The computer compares the line pressure it asks for with what the pressure sensor reports. A large difference sets P0867.
Dirty fluid, a failing pump, slipping, the sensor and engine overheating are listed on PartsAvatar; TroubleCodes.net lists wiring, connections, the sensor and the module.
Hyundai Elantra, Venue and Accent and Kia Rio bulletins list P0867 with P0730, P0731 and P0741 and call for a TCU update and, if needed, IVT replacement. GM 23-NA-139 covers Corvette P1955 and/or P0867.

Cause 3: Dirty fluid, weak pump or slipping
Common general cause- Why it ranks here
- PartsAvatar lists dirty fluid, the high-pressure pump and slipping.
- What would change this
- Rises if the fluid is dark or the transmission slips.
Cause 4: Pressure sensor or wiring
Common general cause- Why it ranks here
- Both references list the sensor, wiring and connections.
- What would change this
- Rises if voltage or resistance is off.
What to test first
Start at step 1. Each result tells you what it means and where to go next.
Step 1: Ask a dealer about bulletins for your VIN and check fluid.
IfA bulletin applies
It meansFollow it.
IfFluid is dirty or low
It meansCorrect it.
IfNeither
It meansTest the sensor.
Step 2: Have a shop test sensor voltage, resistance and wiring.
Warning:Have a qualified shop do this step.
IfSensor or wiring fails
It meansRepair it.
IfGood, and line pressure is off
It meansPump or internal fault.
Symptoms
