C2205: Steering angle sensor internal fault (Jeep, Chrysler)

C2205 steering angle sensor internal

C2205 in short

On Jeep and Chrysler, C2205 means the steering angle sensor reports an internal fault. On the Wrangler this sensor sits in the clockspring behind the steering wheel. Stability and traction control may switch off and the airbag light can come on. Have a shop check it soon.

The steering angle sensor tells the stability control system which way the wheels are pointed. If the sensor reports a fault inside itself, the module sets C2205 and may turn stability or traction control off.

On 2011-2016 Wrangler, Stellantis says the sensor is part of the clockspring behind the steering wheel, so the same bulletin lists airbag squib codes and speed control switch codes. It tells technicians to test the clockspring and sensor and replace the clockspring if needed.

A 2007 Wrangler complaint also shows the code with the sensor not initialized and a software update, and a 2017 Pacifica complaint shows C2205-96 with a sensor replacement. These show the same meaning on two models but not the same repair.

Pick your make

C2205 is a manufacturer-specific code: its meaning depends on who built the car.

Other makes: meaning not verified. Check with a scan tool that reads manufacturer definitions.
