Mitsubishi OBD2 codes
Codes where we have reviewed, vehicle-specific evidence for this make.
Mitsubishi notes come from bulletins that fix codes with software: an ECU reprogram for boost-related codes on the 2018 Eclipse Cross, a false intake code on the Lancer and a transmission update on recent Outlanders. Ask a dealer whether the update has already been applied before replacing parts.
C161E with the AWD light on
Owners of the 2008 to 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution report C161E with the AWD light, and one owner quotes the readout as an electric pump relay circuit stuck. This is owner narrative and not a confirmed cause. Brake and stability systems are safety-critical, so have it inspected by a qualified shop. The source is owner reports to NHTSA.
C161E for an ACD pump actuator lock
NHTSA owner complaints on 2009 to 2011 Lancer and Ralliart report a dealer scan showing C161E as an ACD pump actuator lock. One owner was told it can happen under aggressive driving. Brake and stability faults are safety-critical, so have the system inspected rather than attempting repairs yourself. The source is owner reports, not a confirmed repair, so this is labelled vehicle data.
P0068 with speed limited on the Eclipse Cross
Mitsubishi TSB-18-13-001 covers P0068 on the 2018 Eclipse Cross, where vehicle speed is limited to 62 mph. The fix listed is an ECU reprogram, so ask a dealer whether the update has been done before replacing parts. We only read the NHTSA summary, not the full bulletin. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0133 oxygen sensor slow response, 2001 Diamante
Mitsubishi bulletin 011001 gives information on P0133 as an oxygen sensor circuit slow response on the 2001 Diamante. We only read the NHTSA summary, so the repair is not known. Check the oxygen sensor and its wiring first. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0400 and an ECU reprogram
Mitsubishi TSB-23-13-004 covers the check engine light with P0400 on 2019 to 2023 Outlander Sport models. The repair is ECU reprogramming. Only the NHTSA summary was read. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0431 from catalyst layer separation
Mitsubishi bulletin TSB-13-15-001 says some exhaust-manifold-mounted converters on 2006 to 2008 Eclipse and Galant models can have catalyst layer separation, which sets P0431. It extends the converter warranty to 10 years or 120,000 miles in certain states. We read only the NHTSA summary. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P061A with a 25 mph fail-safe on the Eclipse Cross
Mitsubishi TSB-18-13-002 says that on the 2018 Eclipse Cross, P061A can set during turbocharged driving when the torque monitor does not recognise boost. The car then goes into fail-safe with speed limited to 25 mph. New engine ECU software fixes it, so ask a dealer about the update before replacing parts. We only read the NHTSA summary, not the full bulletin. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0657 in extreme cold from the throttle actuator relay
Mitsubishi TIN-18-13-001 says stored codes including P0657 in extremely cold weather are addressed by replacing the throttle actuator control relay. It covers the Outlander, Outlander Sport and Mirage. Only the NHTSA summary was read. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0706 fixed by a transmission software update on the Outlander
Mitsubishi bulletin 23-23-002 updates the transmission and shift-by-wire control software on the 2022 to 2023 Outlander for P0706. Ask a dealer whether the update has been done before replacing parts. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0712 fixed by transmission computer reprogramming on the Outlander
Mitsubishi bulletin 07-23-006 reprograms the transmission control module for P0712 on the 2007 Outlander, where SERVICE REQUIRED can show with no check engine light. Only the NHTSA summary was read, not the full bulletin. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P0713 fixed by transmission computer reprogramming
Mitsubishi bulletin 0723006 says to reprogram the transmission control module for P0713 on the 2007 Outlander, which shows Service Required with no check engine light. Check the software level before replacing parts. Only the NHTSA summary was read, not the bulletin itself. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P1751 from the transmission control relay
A NHTSA complaint for a 2003 Diamante says a dealer blamed the automatic transmission control relay for an intermittent no-start that set P1751. The source is owner reports, not a bulletin.
P1751 with the service engine soon light, per Mitsubishi bulletin 8113
Mitsubishi bulletin 8113 covers the service engine soon light with P1751 on the 2002 Montero Sport. The NHTSA summary names the code but not its meaning or a repair. It needs testing to confirm. We have not confirmed the bulletin is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
P2097 that can be false and fixed by software
Mitsubishi TSB-15-13-002 covers a false P2097 on the Lancer and Outlander, with a software fix. Ask a dealer whether the update applies before replacing parts. The bulletin is published on NHTSA, but we have not confirmed it is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
U0141 from an ETACS-ECU CAN timeout
Mitsubishi TSB1942B003 covers an ETACS-ECU CAN timeout with U0141 on Outlander, Outlander Sport and Lancer Sportback models, and updates the service manuals with revised diagnostics. TIN-16-36-001 covers the 2017 Outlander with the code stored beside a body code. We only read the NHTSA summaries. We have not confirmed either is still current, so this is labelled vehicle data rather than confirmed by bulletin.
