U0415: A module received invalid data from the anti-lock brake (ABS) module
Invalid data received from ABS control module "A"
Severity: Inspect soon
Bulletins pair U0415 with ABS and stability lights, reduced steering assist and trailer brake warnings, and Honda's manual says ABS and stability warnings need a dealer check.
It gets more serious if:
- Stop: Stop in a safe place if the red brake warning comes on with the ABS light, the brake pedal feels wrong, or the car shows a Do not drive steering message. Honda's manual gives these as stop conditions.
U0415 in short
U0415 means a module received data from the ABS module that it rejected. The ABS module is talking, but a value such as wheel speed is invalid, often because of a wheel speed sensor, an ABS fault or software. Get it checked soon by a professional; stop if the red brake light comes on.
Wheel speed, brake and stability data from the ABS module feed the engine computer, transmission, power steering, cameras and all-wheel-drive systems. When one of these modules receives an ABS value it cannot trust, it stores U0415.
The module that stored U0415 shows what is affected. GM's 2013-2017 LaCrosse and Regal show "Steering Assist Is Reduced", Ford's 2013-2015 Fusion stores it in the power steering module, and FCA's 2025 Compass stores it in the transmission computer.
Often the ABS module is passing on its own fault. GM replaced moisture-damaged wheel speed sensors on the 2016 Envision, and Mazda lists U0415:92 with an ABS pump motor code on the 2010-2011 Mazda3.
Most likely causes
Cause 1: Wheel speed sensor or its connector
Supported by vehicle data- Why it ranks here
- GM's 16-NA-248 replaces internally shorted wheel speed sensors for U0415 with stability and AWD warnings on the 2016 Envision, and ALLDATA traced U0401 in several modules to a damaged wheel speed sensor connector.
- What would change this
- Rises if wheel speed C-codes are stored or one wheel reads wrong in live data. Falls if all wheel speeds agree.
Cause 2: An ABS module or hydraulic unit fault the ABS module is reporting
Supported by vehicle data- Why it ranks here
- Mazda lists U0415:92 as an error signal from the ABS unit, together with an ABS pump motor code, on the 2010-2011 Mazda3. GM's PIT5490B pairs U0415 with a master cylinder fluid procedure.
- What would change this
- Rises if ABS C-codes are stored. Falls if the ABS module has no codes of its own.
Cause 3: Software in the ABS module or the receiving module
Supported by vehicle data- Why it ranks here
- FCA updates the transmission computer for U0415 on the 2025 Compass, and Ford says U0415 in the Explorer/Aviator camera module can be set falsely.
- What would change this
- Rises if a dealer finds an update for your VIN. Falls if software is current.
Cause 4: Network wiring or low voltage
Possible — needs testing- Why it ranks here
- A general network cause; the bulletins point more often to sensors, ABS faults and software for U0415.
- What would change this
- Rises with lost-communication codes or a weak battery.
What to test first
Start at step 1. Each result tells you what it means and where to go next.
Step 1: Have all modules scanned, noting which module stored U0415 and any ABS or wheel speed codes.
IfWheel speed sensor codes are stored
It meansA sensor or its connector is likely.
IfOther ABS codes are stored
It meansThe ABS module is reporting its own fault.
Points to: An ABS module or hydraulic unit fault the ABS module is reporting
IfU0415 alone in one module
It meansCheck for software bulletins.
Step 2: Ask a dealer whether your VIN has a bulletin or update for U0415.
IfA bulletin applies
It meansFollow it.
Points to: Software in the ABS module or the receiving module
IfNone applies
It meansHave the wiring checked.
Step 3: Have a shop compare live wheel speeds and check ABS power, ground and network wiring.
Warning:Brakes and steering are safety-critical. Leave diagnosis and repair to a professional.
IfOne wheel speed drops out or reads wrong
It meansSensor, tone ring or connector.
IfPower or wiring fault found
It meansRepair it.
Symptoms
- ABS, traction or stability warning lights
- "Steering Assist Is Reduced" or a power steering warning
- Service Trailer Brake or Hill Start Assist Unavailable messages
- Driver-assist or camera features unavailable
- Red brake warning with the ABS light, or a brake pedal that feels wrong Gets more serious: stop and have it checked.
How to fix
This is a safety-critical system, so we explain the code but don't give repair steps. Have it inspected by a qualified technician.

U0415 questions
Why did U0415 turn on my power steering or trailer brake warning?
Those systems use ABS wheel speed data. When the data is rejected, they switch off or reduce their function and warn you.
