P2067: Second fuel level sensor signal too low

Fuel level sensor B circuit low

Severity: Severity not verified — if the car runs badly, have it inspected

The sources read give no driving-risk rating. A wrong fuel gauge can leave you out of fuel, so keep track of fuel by miles driven until it is fixed.

P2067 in short

P2067 means the second fuel level sensor, sensor B, is reporting a signal that is too low. It matters mainly on vehicles with a two-part fuel tank or two senders. Likely causes are a wiring short to ground or a failed tank sensor. On some Fords a badly installed remote start set it.

Some vehicles use two fuel level senders, for example in a saddle-style tank. The computer reads each one, and the A and B senders have separate codes.

P2067 sets when the B sender circuit reads low. TroubleCodes.net lists a wiring short to ground or the tank sensor as the likely causes.

Ford bulletin 17512 attributed an intermittent P2067 or P0462 on 2003-2004 Fords to an improperly installed remote start system.

Most likely causes

  1. Cause 1: Short to ground in the sensor B wiring

    Common general cause
    Why it ranks here
TroubleCodes.net names a wiring short to ground first.
    What would change this
Rises if the sensor signal wire measures shorted to ground. Falls if the wiring is intact.
  2. Cause 2: Failed fuel level sensor B in the tank

    Common general cause
    Why it ranks here
TroubleCodes.net lists the tank sensor itself as a cause.
    What would change this
Rises if wiring is good but the sensor resistance does not change with fuel level. Falls if the sensor tests normally.
How to test the fuel level sensor (sending unit)
  3. Cause 3: Improperly installed aftermarket remote start (2003-2004 Ford group models)

    Supported by vehicle data
    Why it ranks here
Ford bulletin 17512 attributes an intermittent MIL with P2067 or P0462 to an improperly installed remote start system on 2003-2004 Focus, Taurus, Thunderbird, Sable and Lincoln LS. It applies only to those vehicles with such a device.
    What would change this
Rises if an aftermarket remote start is fitted and the code is intermittent. Falls if none is installed.

What to test first

Start at step 1. Each result tells you what it means and where to go next.

  1. Step 1: Read all codes and note whether P0462, P2066 or P2068 are stored with P2067. Ask whether an aftermarket remote start is fitted.

    Low riskTool: OBD-II scan tool

  2. Step 2: Have the sensor B wiring checked for a short to ground and the sensor resistance measured against fuel level.

Best left to a shopTool: scan tool, multimeter

Warning:Reaching the sender means working at the fuel tank, with fuel vapor and spill risk. Let a shop do it.

Symptoms
