P0207: Cylinder 7 fuel injector circuit fault
Cylinder 7 injector circuit malfunction
Severity: Inspect soon
GM bulletins for this injector circuit family describe reduced engine power and cylinder bank shutdown codes, so the engine may run on fewer cylinders.
It gets more serious if:
- Stop: Stop driving if the check engine light flashes, the engine misfires hard, or it loses power in traffic.
P0207 in short
P0207 means the computer found a fault in the electrical circuit of the cylinder 7 fuel injector, so the engine has at least seven cylinders. Causes include a failed injector, a damaged harness or connector, or a computer driver fault. GM trucks with this code have shown reduced power, so get it checked soon.
The computer switches each injector and monitors the circuit. P0207 is set when the cylinder 7 injector circuit is open, shorted or not responding.
GM bulletins for 2004 to 2005 trucks pair P0207 with P2149, a related injector group code, and report reduced engine power and a bank shutdown behaviour.
Check your service information to see which cylinder is number 7 on your engine.
Most likely causes
Cause 1: Failed injector on cylinder 7
Common general cause- Why it ranks here
- An open or shorted injector coil sets circuit codes directly and Ford and GM bulletins replace injectors for this family.
- What would change this
- Rises if coil resistance is out of spec. Falls if it tests normally.
Cause 2: Damaged harness or connector for the cylinder 7 injector
Supported by vehicle data- Why it ranks here
- Ford bulletin 19620 and GM 22-NA-087 deal with open injector circuits and the harness.
- What would change this
- Rises if the connector is loose or the harness is chafed. Falls if wiring tests clean.
Cause 3: GM driver module or revised-part issue (2004 to 2005 trucks)
Supported by vehicle data- Why it ranks here
- GM bulletin 05-06-04-047 pairs P0207 with P2149 and installs a revised part, though the NHTSA summary is short.
- What would change this
- Rises on the listed 2004 to 2005 trucks if the dealer finds the bulletin applies. Falls on other vehicles.
What to test first
Start at step 1. Each result tells you what it means and where to go next.
Step 1: Read all codes and note P2149, P0202, P0300 or misfire codes stored with P0207.
IfP2149 or other injector group codes are stored
It meansA shared driver or power feed is likely.
Points to: GM driver module or revised-part issue (2004 to 2005 trucks)
IfP0207 alone
It meansTest the injector circuit.
Step 2: Have the cylinder 7 injector connector, coil resistance and pulse tested.
Warning:Injectors are under fuel pressure and near hot parts. Let a shop do it.
IfInjector out of spec or no pulse
It meansInjector fault.
IfDamaged connector or harness
It meansWiring fault.
Points to: Damaged harness or connector for the cylinder 7 injector
Symptoms
- Check engine light with misfire or rough running
- Reduced engine power
- Flashing check engine light Gets more serious: stop and have it checked.
Compare with: Rough idle with the check engine light on, Car shaking with the check engine light on
How to fix
Step 1: With the engine off and cool, check that the injector connectors are fully seated.
Step 2: Ask a dealer whether a GM or Ford injector bulletin applies to your VIN.
