C2200: Anti-lock brake module internal fault (Ram, Dodge)

ABS module internal fault

C2200 in short

On Ram and Dodge trucks, C2200 means the anti-lock brake module found a fault inside itself, often in its software. FCA bulletins fix some cases with a software update. Normal brakes keep working, but anti-lock may not; have it serviced soon, and stop if the red brake light is on.

The ABS module runs self-checks on its own hardware and software. C2200 is set when one of those checks fails. On the 2019 Ram 1500, FCA lists subcode -48, a supervision software failure.

A 2009 Chrysler bulletin says C2200 on about 125,000 Dodge Ram trucks with stability control could turn on the ABS, ESP or base brake warning lamps, and dealers fixed it by reflashing the ABS module. That makes a software update the first thing to ask about.

Owners of other FCA vehicles, such as the Jeep Wrangler, also report this code, but we found no bulletin that defines it for them. A dealer scan tool will show the exact subcode.

Pick your make

C2200 is a manufacturer-specific code: its meaning depends on who built the car.

Other makes: meaning not verified. Check with a scan tool that reads manufacturer definitions.

Most likely causes

  1. Cause 1: ABS module software fault that needs an update

    Supported by vehicle data
    Why it ranks here
Chrysler TSB-09-041 fixes C2200 on Dodge Ram trucks with ESP by reflashing the ABS module, and FCA S1908000074 names a supervision software failure for C2200-48 on the 2019 Ram 1500.

  2. Cause 2: ABS module internal hardware failure

    Possible — needs testing
    Why it ranks here
The code itself names an internal module fault. If a software update does not clear it, the module may need replacing, but we found no bulletin that says how often.

  3. Step 3: Have a dealer check for ABS module software updates and bulletins for the VIN, update the module, and retest.
