C0210: Right rear wheel speed sensor circuit or signal fault

Right rear wheel speed sensor circuit

C0210 in short

C0210 is a right rear wheel speed sensor circuit fault. The ABS computer is not getting a good signal from that wheel, so anti-lock and traction control may switch off. Toyota and Scion owners often find a failed sensor, hub or wiring plug. Have it inspected soon.

C0210 means the ABS computer is not getting a proper signal from the right rear wheel speed sensor. A Toyota bulletin for the 2007-2008 Yaris lists C0210 as the rear speed sensor RH circuit, with C0215 for the left.

Owners of Yaris, Corolla and Scion xB report C0210 with C1238, then a sensor, harness plug or complete hub repair. Wet weather made it worse on one xB.

On some Sequoias it appeared with C1223 and C1310, which the owner linked to the skid control computer.

Most likely causes

  1. Cause 1: Right rear speed sensor or hub assembly

    Supported by vehicle data
    Why it ranks here
Yaris, Corolla and xB complaints report sensors, wiring and hubs replaced for C0210.
    What would change this
Rises if the right rear speed reads zero or erratic. Falls if it reads normally.
How to test the brake system control module (abs module)
  2. Cause 2: Wiring or plug to the right rear wheel

    Supported by vehicle data
    Why it ranks here
A Corolla owner reports a plug and terminal repair kit for C0210 and C1238; Yaris owners report harness replacement.
    What would change this
Rises if wiggling the harness drops the signal. Falls if the harness is intact.
  3. Cause 3: Skid control computer

    Possible — needs testing
    Why it ranks here
A Sequoia owner reports C0210 with C1223 and C1310 and a computer repair quote.
    What would change this
Rises if other ABS codes are stored with it. Falls if the wheel signal is bad.

What to test first

Start at step 1. Each result tells you what it means and where to go next.

  1. Step 1: Read ABS codes and compare the four wheel speeds on a scan tool while driving slowly.

Symptoms

  • ABS and traction lights on
  • Brake light on with ABS not working
  • Red BRAKE light also on Gets more serious: stop and have it checked.

How to fix

This is a safety-critical system, so we explain the code but don't give repair steps. Have it inspected by a qualified technician.

Parts and cost context

  • Brake system control module (ABS module):On some Toyotas the sensor is part of the hub, so the repair is larger than a sensor; labor varies; get a quote.

Labor varies by vehicle and shop; get a quote before you approve a repair.

C0210 questions

Will the brakes still work with C0210?

Normal braking usually continues, but anti-lock and traction control can switch off. A red BRAKE light is a stop-and-inspect sign.
