A hybrid has one or more electric motors, usually inside the transmission, that drive the wheels, start the engine and recharge the high-voltage battery when slowing down. A position sensor inside each motor tells the inverter where the rotor is, so it can send current to the right windings at the right moment.
How its codes differ
P0A43 means the position sensor signal for drive motor A keeps cutting in and out. The sensor sits inside the motor housing, so the fault can be the sensor, its wiring inside the transmission, or the motor itself.
On the 2017–2025 Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid, Chrysler's warranty extensions list P0A43 with P0A3F, P0A45 and P0C1A. They cover a wiring connector inside the transmission that can short and, in later versions, a motor A bearing failure, with the transmission rebuilt or replaced.
On other hybrids we found no bulletin for this code, so the maker's own diagnosis decides whether the motor is at fault.
Hybrid drive motor A position sensor signal cutting in and out
Severity: Inspect soon
Signs it's failing
Check engine or hybrid warning light with P0A43
Reduced power or limp mode
On the Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid, loss of drive power has been reported for the related transmission connector fault
How to test it
Read all stored codes with a scan tool and note any dashboard messages, limp mode or new motor noise. Do not open, unplug or touch anything in the hybrid system. (Low risk)
Look only, without touching: orange high-voltage cables and connectors are part of this system. Report any visible damage to the dealer. (Low risk)
Give the VIN to a dealer to check for warranty extensions, recalls and hybrid control software updates before any parts are ordered. (Low risk)
Testing the motor position sensor, the motor or the transmission is a job for a dealer or a hybrid-trained technician. (Best left to a shop)
Warning: The hybrid system runs at several hundred volts and can kill. Never touch, unplug or probe orange cables, connectors or parts of the hybrid transmission.
After the repair
Ask the dealer to confirm all hybrid control software flashes named in the bulletin were done.
Confirm no hybrid codes return after a normal drive.
